Latest Situation in Plastic Bag Law

In the regulation regarding the pricing of plastic bags, which are sold for a minimum of 25 cents within the current practice, will be sold for 25 cents per piece, including taxes, as of 01/05/2019, regardless of their size and content.

In order to prevent Environmental Pollution, to raise awareness for environmental awareness and to efficiently manage resources, the Procedures and Principles Regarding the Pricing of Plastic Bags have been put into effect as of January 1, 2019.

In order to ensure that necessary changes can be made in the Procedures and Principles updated with the Consent dated 09.01.2019 and numbered 66745475-145.07-6267, taking into account the issues encountered in practice, with the Authorization Approval dated 25/03/2019 and numbered 66745475-145.07-71201, "Relating to the Pricing of Plastic Bags". Procedures and Principles for Making Changes in the Procedures and Principles” has been published.

In this context,

1. All bags given during the product sale in duty-free shops will be given free of charge.
2. The application will be valid in markets, grocery stores, canteens, patisseries, glassware, haberdashery, restaurants, cafes, hardware stores and similar places where products such as textiles, toys, electronics, bakery products, clothing, food are sold wholesale or retail.
3. It has been stated that the environmental slogan and Zero Waste logo will be used on at least one surface of the plastic bags that are subject to a fee, and that the brand and logos of the sales points on the plastic bags cannot exceed twenty percent of the surface area (excluding the handle and bellows), and the Zero Waste logo as provided from the Ministry website or the bag.will use it as a single color, provided that it is visible depending on the color.
4. In determining the thickness of plastic bags, a tolerance margin of 10% will be accepted.
5. Plastic bags, which are sold for a minimum of 25 cents within the current practice, will be sold for 25 cents per piece, including taxes, as of 01/05/2019, regardless of their size and content.
6. The plastic bag fee will be announced in at least one place at the points of sale with an announcement that can be easily seen by users and consumers.
7. The declaration and payment transactions to be made by the Sales Points for the sales of plastic bags will be carried out according to the principles determined by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.
8. The period given for the use of plastic bags without barcode and bags that do not comply with the Procedures and Principles dated 09/01/2019 and are in the stocks of the sales points has been extended until 30/06/2019.
